if there is one thing yall need to know about me is that i grew up with percy. that there is gang! we are homies! i love that man! we besties! so the moment this book was announced i knew i had to have it. im not going to spoil anything, but i waited this long to see if anyone else was going to give my boy the respect he deserves! this book was a fun lil filler episode checking in on percy, annabeth, & grover. and i LOVED IT.
reading this book i had genuine moments of "aw i missed percy". like my brain genuinely legitimately missed him like a real person. the humor, the care, the love, the (dis)respect to the gods? nothing could have prepared me to love percy more than a simple side quest.

i have put off reading this book for ages. i have clinical depression, i actively have to fight against being sad so i usually veer towards happier "romance" and knowing mythology etc as well as i do i already knew the general story of achilles. it was one i bought then never planned on reading tbh.
HOWEVER, i really enjoyed this story. the writing was what held me. this book is so beautifully written it caught me off guard. it is very much written like a classic yet in modern language. the story is twisting and winding but the imagery woven throughout is astonishing. prior to reading the book, quotes popped up but i was uninterested. after reading the book those quotes have such beautifully heartbreaking context that they make me feral.
of course we've all seen "i would know him blind...at the end of the world" etc etc, but can i raise you:

i finished this book back in MAY but for whatever reason posting about it was an absolute nightmare, but i figured i should still post about it before i do my midyear roll call.
i don't remember much from this except the amazing (as always) performance of euan morton, and the love and care that simon & baz show to each other throughout this one. they're fresh from war with fear that another one could be just around the corner coupled with the fact that neithwr of them are aware of how to actually BE a couple, so of course there's a lot of mess and figuring things out. but it is so beautiful (and quite funny) to see them go through it.

oddly enough this being the shortest book in the series did well for pacing. i preferred this book much better than the first one (i know .5 stars may not seem like much, but it IS!!) the characters seemed much more lively here. simon had a goal beyond live and listen to the mage. it was great to see the characters in a new setting having to dissect and face their own biases.
also i may have a crush on shep, don’t tell him 🤫😂
ready to jump into the next one and see what lies ahead and what the hell is happening at watford now

hibbert’s writing is lovely as always. the characters have depth and flaws and /wit/ in a way that not a lot of authors can pull off, which is lovely…but this book wasn’t my favorite.
my family dynamic and general vibe is very similar to bradley, smart brainy middle child with mental health and college un-readiness (i spent a year studying psychology before switching to english). but my personality before college was very much like celine. angry and bitter and sarcastic and emotionally insecure due to untreated trauma.
this book was so long and somehow not long enough all at the same time. it feels like i was rushing to finish but still wished that many of the scenes would slow down so that the reader could live in them. i liked learning new things about how brad & cel fit together previously as theyre learning to fit together now. my favorite scene was when he talked about her punching each of his arms to help him feel balanced when they were younger. i wish there were more scenes like that. of them knowing each other. 4 years is a long time, but it’s not that long and i wish i could have seen more.

HOWEVER, i thoroughly THOROUGHLY enjoyed it. quick witted and snappy while still being told in an interesting way through multiple points of view that all converge in one spot. very well done.

well well well!!! the cast is back (mostly). i enjoyed this second installment in the poison heart duology, though not quite as much as the first. i think i would have much preferred both stories to be in one book. this is very much a continuation and as such it doesn’t feel like a different journey, just an additional adventure. as always @kalynnbayron did a wonderful job weaving myth into family lore into a realistic narrative. for better or worse, this branch of the story felt like a speedrun of the first 2 PJO books. i’m happy to see a queer black take on western mythos that we are force-fed here in america however, you’re telling me that Bri saw what she saw and didn’t immediately use the internet to look up the western mythos? she literally just didn’t think to have any background on what she could be facing? i understand wanting to have a reader stand-in, but her curiosity from the first book feels drained away here. sure we can argue it’s because of grief, but she still went on the journey in the first place!

first off, shout out to my baby daddy, Conner Reid.
i don’t read many mafia stories, but this one gave me a new respect for the genre. i was intrigued by the idea of a mute but fiesty MC, however this book had me by the first line.very well done. will definitely read more work by @jillramsowerauthor (can the book be considered a page turner if i didn’t turn the pages??).
back to my husband, Conner, he was rough and tough but he never did anything to Emi that was unforgivable. no s/a, no abuse, they had that obvious back and forth banter, but he was straight up and honest with her, that may have been the sexiest thing about him. and the way he SPOKE TO HER! i started drafting this post as soon as he put his hands on her face & called her baby. this man has my respect and my first born if he wants it.
i downloaded this audiobook as a quick read while i rode home from vacation. the narration was done well, but i was more surprised and impressed with the writing. this story reminded me that a romance can be so many other things. sometimes as writers we can have our smut and plot them too 😌

i picked this book up just for the holidays, a quick vacation read to bring back the cozy christmas feeling. and though it didn’t disappoint in that regard, it felt like there was something missing. the characters were lovely and relatable, the plot was full of those lovely holiday hijinks expected from a holiday rom-com, but for whatever reason something seemed hollow about it? i devoured this one in one sitting and imagined the movie version the entire time so OF COURSE i had to create a mood board.

i am slowly but surely making my way through all of @taliahibbert ‘s discography. she is who i aspire to be when i grow up 😂
this is my second book by her, and she did not disappoint! chloe brown is a strong thiccum independent badass who also happens to have chronic pain and I FELT THAT. as someone who has chronic conditions (not specifically pain) and has to take medication every day to keep myself up running and regulated, i loved that there was a character out here living her best life (or working on it) even with things that must prove would consider hindrances.
now onto more important things: REDFORD MY BELOVED!!!!!!!! 😍🥰❤️‍🩹❤️‍🔥

there were so many lines in this book that begged to be noticed. as a kid/preteen i used to LOVE icarly and i was always thought of as the Sam of my friend group, so of course i had to support my love. never would i have imagined the horror happening behind the eyes of someone i respected and played a character that i connected with so well.
@jennettemccurdy has been through so much and it’s beautiful to see her going through the healing part of her journey in order to work on coming out on the other side of all of that trauma changed for the better.

there were so many lines in this book that begged to be noticed. as a kid/preteen i used to LOVE icarly and i was always thought of as the Sam of my friend group, so of course i had to support my love. never would i have imagined the horror happening behind the eyes of someone i respected and played a character that i connected with so well.
@jennettemccurdy has been through so much and it’s beautiful to see her going through the healing part of her journey in order to work on coming out on the other side of all of that trauma changed for the better.

contrary to the rating, i don’t hate this book. i devoured all 381 pages in one sitting, but it never felt…complete?
i enjoyed this book and it was a lovely break between more intense fantasies, but it felt empty. it’s like the story is constantly working towards something but there’s nothing there. it felt like speeding to the finish line only to find out that the race is about to begin.
i liked the characters and the concept more than just a little, but i wish there was more meat on the books bones.

if there is something anyone needs to know about me, its that i LOVE mythology. i LOVE the idea that it stems from and continues to feed our realistic everyday lives. i went into this book blind. i knew nothing of the idea other than realistic fantasy by an author i was familiar with, but i really enjoyed this one.
i wasnt a fan of “cinderella is dead” and ive posted about that before, but THIS??? this was so well done. it has Bayron’s style for sure but it feels more mature than cinderella did. i never felt like i was being spoonfed the way i did reading cinderella.
i was honestly intrigued from beginning to end. the characters are lovable (albeit a bit shady), and the setting feels magical but grounded. amazon is shipping the sequel and i cant wait to get started 🥰

i am lowkey(highkey) unapologetically in love with leah johnson & no one can stop me. i can admit that i liked this book much more than “you should see me in a crown”. both are great books, but this one just…felt like ME. the way that music was such an intrinsic part of the characters and the story, the uncertainness of relationships, the uncontrollable urge to love and be loved with everything you have…
this book was fun, for sure, but it spoke to such innate parts of me that idk where to go from here. if you have not read this, you GOTTA.
& related but not plot specific: the audiobook read by @lexiunderwood & alaska jackson is gorgeous! their voices are beautiful and fit so well for the characters. not to mention it felt like every sentence from their mouths were works of spoken word which speaks to @byleahjohnson ‘s stunning use of poetic prose/language and their ability to feel the words on the page as they say them. for anyone who is interested the audiobook is currently on sale if you have/use the @chirpbooks app, just saying. #notsponsored but if y’all wanna…🌚
